1. TIME ZONE

Japan is nine hours ahead of UTC. All of Japan is covered by a single time zone.

2. WEATHER

Generally, the weather in December will be cold with mostly clear skies. The average temperature in December would be 8.3°C (47°F) with an average low of 5.0°C (41°F) and high of 11.7°C (53°F).

3. ELECTRICITY

The standard power supply is 100 volts. The frequency is 50 Hz in Tokyo (Eastern Japan). The type of power outlet/connector is “Type A,” which is two parallel prongs. It is advised to bring a plug adapter for the use of electrical equipment.

4. CURRENCY/ATMS

The official currency of Japan is the YEN (¥) and only the YEN is accepted when paying cash. ATMs that accept credit, debit and ATM cards that are issued outside of Japan can be found in:

Major international credit cards are accepted in most stores.

5. PERSONAL MEDICINES

We recommend that you bring sufficient quantities of any medicines you take, even those you use less frequently, as foreign medicines and over-the-counter remedies are not sold in Japan.
